However researching a book on game dogs and not asking dog fighters questions as to their mode of operation and opinion would be analogous to writing a book on poaching and not interviewing poachers. I bought this book thinking it would just be another rest "for my cup of coffee" and make a great coffee table book. However after reading it was incredible informative on the terrier breed and the pitbull. I really enjoyed how the author went into great details on the genetics and bloodlines... In a simple manner that anyone "without a college degree" could understand. In fact, I enjoyed this book so much that I bought two more as gifts for people that operate massive rescues in the area.. Great Book.. Highly recommend!
I found this book very informative. I especially enjoyed the section regarding the sporting ability of the English Bull Terrier. Many other books shy away from the rich history and current sporting ability of the Bull and Terrier breeds. If you currently own or are considering owning a pitbull, bull terrier, or other bull and terrier breed, this book is a must have.
An acceptable book on the history of game dogs. Interesting parts include info on dogs from the UK, Staffordshire Bull Terrier info. Worth buying if you have a collection, but if you want an introduction into the breed there are better books.

I really enjoyed this book. Much of the information I already knew but being that this book was written in Great Britain and I am in the USA it was very interesting to learn about the history of the Pit Bull type dogs in the UK. It also provided some nice photos of various Pit Bulls, Bull Terriers, Staffies, etc. Very happy with this book.
Pit Bull Garden Evolution of the Pit Bull Terrier & Other Game Dogs is more general than the title may suggest. The book is about game dogs and how they came to be. This book covers a lot of history and it covers other breeds besides pit bulls. Although Link's background is in genetics, it doesn't make the book inaccessible as Link writes of selection and history of these breeds through stories of dogfighting, bear baiting, badger baiting, and rat baiting, The book is not overly graphic, my mother read and found interesting the story of the fight of Jacko versus a monkey who had many victories over pitbulls.
This book is a labor of love from Link. You can tell he has a passion for the breed. There is information in here you probably won't find easily elsewhere. If you're the owner of a couch potato pitbull it is interesting to know their gladiator history.
I highly recommend the book. I only have two criticisms of the book. Link details dogfights and claims he abhors dogfighting, which is probably true, but after he enthusiastically recounts a dogfight, or his own opinion of a pitbull versus a gorrilla battle, Link feels obliged to state he is not in favor of dogfighting. Neither am I, but I enjoy reading about the history of the breed. Still, those who cannot to bare to even read dogfighting accounts should steer clear. My other criticism would be the ancestry charts of different champion pitbulls in the book were not of very much interest.
