The author did a great job showing the major stages of grief that you go through when you suffer a devastating loss like Amy did when her husband tragically passed. The suddenness of it takes your breath and very desire to keep living just deserts you. Everyone deals with loss in their own way. Some stay lost and others start coming back to life slowly. How the gift from her late husband was the impetus for her living again was such an awesome new beginning for Amy.The healing that the horses gave her and that she passed on to others was wonderful to share. Each new accomplishment you shared with her. When she finally ventured out in the real world and noticed a man after such a long time of thinking that part of her was dead. Her uncertainty, her vulnerability was very poignant. You related to how her guilt with feeling pleasure in another man’s arms would make her question if it was right.
You took the uncertain journey with her as she started learning to live and love again when she finally decided to give Brock a chance. You enjoyed their passion and cheered when they over came many obstacles on the road to make a possible future together.
All of these things were what I felt at the beginning of the book. Some of it was a bit syrup sweet at times but hey don’t we all feel a little goofy when we first feel the butterflies of meeting someone new.
Once we were introduced to Brocks’ over protective pushy mother I pretty much predicted how the rest of the story would go. I kept hoping that the author would surprise me, but darn it I nailed every thing that happened not even kidding. I kept hoping that since Amy knew how his mother was that she would say no way unless Brock says that to my face I’m not going anywhere. Instead she went down the path I predicted.
The book for me at that point pretty much became so predictable that is was just a blur of a finish. The beginning part of the book was closer to a four star the work with the horses, dealing with depression and finding a reason to see the beauty in the world again those are the things I will remember about the book. The rest of the book after meeting the mother was just meh for me.

I received an early copy, I don't want to use the magical words to keep a certain company from possibly rejecting my review.. haha
Anywho, this book was the first time I'd ever heard the name Betty Shreffler.. I've never spoke to her, heard of her, or read any of her books until this one. ( explaining this so no one thinks my review is biased) and I do not read many cowboy books... hey we all have what we like.. haha but this book, holy cowboy!!!
When I read the blurb to this book, I was auto hooked. I wanted and needed it asap...
When tragedy strikes what would you do? Well for Amy she started he own business focused on her passion for horses, she now heals and trains them. After shutting her late husbands business down, she starts her own horse therapy ranch... two years after tragedy struck her grams begins to pressure her about dating, she wants nothing to do with it, that is until she's stood up by her employee for a dinner date and in walks Brock, sexy, built cowboy, ( me personally I'd take Brock for a ride any day) they introduce themselves and one thing leads to another.... but does tragedy strike again? Can Amy even handle anything else happening? This book will make you moan, cry and awe... it is full of so many emotions, heck as much as I want to ride Brock, there was a point I wanted to throats punch him >( he made a very stupid choice... so anywho you'll read about tragedy, second chances and a love so desperate and hot that it pours off the pages.. I couldn't put this book down, I haven't had time to sleep.. not many books can grip me the way this one did.. Betty may have been a new to me author, but I'll be reading whatever she writes from now on ) happy reading )
Okay, I cried! I cried when Amy lost her first love and then just continued to cry throughout the book. This was a gut wrenching story of love lost, love found and maybe lost again. Watching Amy and Brock struggle through the demons in their lives just held me spellbound. There were times though that I wanted to reach through the pages and smack Amy on the head! It took so much courage for her to overcome her tragic loss, find love with Brock only to question it!! I was literally talking to her throughout the book. Brock is a loving, caring man who has finally decided that he is going to fight for what he wants and what he wants is Amy!!! Will he break through to her and will she believe him and believe she can be what Brock wants? Oh people, get this book and get wrapped up in a story of lost love and second chances!!! I promise, you won't regret it!
This was my first Bettt Shreffler book, and won't be my last. My gosh, the heat from this was soooo amazing, but the roller coaster of feelings that accompanied it... goodness! Get ready to have your heart pushed and pulled multiple times.
This story focuses on Brock and Amy. Brock is a cowboy with heart. Great with his hands, full of surprises, and a large heart that isn't afraid of love. Amy is a strong woman has dealt with loss and owns a horse farm. She has baggage that she must come to terms with, and I felt it was dealt with realistically. I still think Brock fell a little too fast, but he was so sweet on her and ready to do anything that I can forgive that. There's a lot that the two deal with in this story, some more surprising than others, but throughout it all, there's a constant stream of hot passion running between these two that can't be extinguished by outside forces. They're both real people, characterized well, and you can't help but become attached to them both.
Overall I really liked the story! It took me through all the feels, even at the beginning with another mini love story thrown in there. I liked the wide cast of characters, and loved the chemistry between Amy and Brock. The story is well-written with very few grammar mistakes and is paced alright. If you love cowboys or second chance romance stories, then you really want to check out this story! I highly recommend it!
