Running. Hiding. Surviving.

Anchorage, once Alaska’s largest city, has fallen. Now a threatening maze of death, the city is firmly in the cold grip of a growing zombie horde.

Neil Jordan and Dr. Caldwell lead a small band of desperate survivors—including young Jules and Danny—through the hellish undead maelstrom. With their refuge compromised and behind them, Dr. Caldwell and the others place their faith and their lives squarely in Neil’s hands.

With life and death hanging on every decision, Neil must face each new obstacle without breaking. And the group presses on toward their last hope that this nightmare has been contained, and there still exists a sane world free of infection.

But to reach it, they must survive and escape...

Praise for Sean Schubert's INFECTION

“[Infection is] a fun, fast-paced tale of zombie mayhem that barely gives you time to breathe, and zombie fans who crave plenty of gore and undead action should enjoy it.”--Patrick D’Orazio, author of Comes the Dark

“[Infection] will have even the most skeptical, critical zombie fan coming back for more. I can’t wait for the next installment…”--Ursula K. Raphael, The Zombiephiles

“I found Infection to be a very entertaining read and look for-ward to the next book in the series.”--BuyZombie.com

Infection, the first book in the series, was promising. This second effort suffers from far too much psychobabble and not nearly enough plot advancement.

Our intrepid band is surviving in post-zombie apocalypse Anchorage, where the apparent response from the US government is to abandon the state to its own devices. One of the major plot holes is around the response - the author isolates us in the book in the USA's largest state, but there is no acknowledgement of the outside world and no good explanation as to how Anchorage area has become the entire universe for the story.

Further slowing the action are the interminable internal dialogue sequences that occur virtually every time the spotlight shines on a character. Seriously, we know that the 10-year-old boy misses his parents; we don't need pages of daydreaming to explain that, especially when the "offstage" internal dialogue occurs between asking and answering a simple question. I'm glad to know the author knows what "flat affect" is, but it's completely unnecessary for READERS to get a big explanation of that. It just slows things down to a crawl.

There are some nice descriptions of the Alaska environment - I wish the author had spent more energy there, and more energy on action. This series is dribbling down to a gooey morass.

The shortcomings of the first book were addressed in this sequel. This time, you really do feel that you are finally in Alaska. The places, names, and terrain helps you to put yourself in the story. The story itself is also good, if not better then the first installment. I'm hoping for a third.
This was a solid addition to the first book, maybe even a bit better. The characters were fleshed out a bit, and ran around Anchorage a lot more. I think that may be why I like this so much; as a resident of Anchorage I can really picture every step the characters are taking, even when I disagree with them (I would stay right out of downtown Anchorage if there was a zombie apocalypse). I'm really looking forward to the third book, just to see what happens to zeds in an Alaskan winter.
I can't tell you which one was better this one or the first one!! I love how far the characters have come. It's amazing what you can do if the challenge is put forth!! And that is evident here, with the trials and tribulations being put in front of our survivors!! Can't wait to read the next one!!!!
I REALLY LIKED THIS BOOK. IT PICKED UP RIGHT WHERE THE OTHER BOOK STOPPED. IT HAD MORE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. THE ONLY THING IS YOU REALLY START TO LIKE CERTAIN CHARACTERS AND THEN THEY GET KILLED OFF. I WILL DEFINITELY READ THE NEXT BOOK. THE ONLY THING I DID NOT LIKE IS I DID NOT REALIZE IT WAS A TRIOLOGY. I THINK THE AUTHOR SHOULD LET YOU KNOW YOU, YOU ARE NOT READING A COMPLETE STORY.
Hats off! A sequel that doesn't beat the original story to death but gives you enough information to enjoy it without having picked up the first installment. Great pacing! Still love the characters and still loving how the learn to cope with the rising crisis. Love the small bits of humor sprinkled through out the book as well. All were well placed and added to the story.
I liked reading the first few book well enough, but then the omniscient pov got annoying. I will finish this, but for now I shelved it. If you do want more an inner dialogue approach for a zombie apocalypse try this.
Ok, I'm not really good at doing reviews, but will try my best here...This book is Part 2 of the series, the first one being Infection which I also read..I enjoyed both books although the author did pick it up a few notches with Containment... It's a good combination of Character study, action, creepy situations, and embedded humor-mainly subtle but a few of the wisecracks in this book had me laughing out loud...I keep reading how WWZ is so good, and I did read that book too, but let me say that some of these 'independent' authors are VERY good and in my opinion, MUCH more entertaining and witty.. Throw in some vivid poetic prose which is laced throughout this story, and you have a winner in my opinion... Get 'em both. They are worth the $ in my opinion.
